Scotch Tape, You Say?

Last night, I decided that I might just have to try something different.  I've been doing a lot of glitter gradients, swatches of indie polishes as well as my trusty glitter mosaics but haven't really played with tape much.  Given I have a fresh bottle of Seche Vite and just found my Scotch Tape, why not give it a go?

The thing that's always stopped my taping attempts in the past has always been impatience.  I wouldn't wait long enough before applying the tape which would then either pull up the base colour or I'd be too scared to stick it down full and the top colour would bleed.  This time I was determined for success.  First up, two coats of American Apparel Sunshine State, the egg yolk yellow.  I then waited.  Then waited five minutes more.  Next, sticking the tape to my palm first, I laid the tape near my cuticles and added a thick coat of Urban Outfitters Bandeau.  It's such a fantastic purple, and has a really interesting rubber effect.  It's not the best choice for the one coat here but oh well.  Finally, using another small piece so as not to go near the purple, I added Urban Outfitters Hottub to the tips.  I love this colour so much.  It's so bright, with a subtle gold shimmer, it's amazing.

The Verdict: I love the colours here - so bright and summery - but I wish I'd changed up the stripe widths so there was more purple and less yellow.  Next time!

  1. I'm never patient enough either... I just end up freehanding everything to prevent tools. Good job! I agree, it needs a bit more purple, or even if you added a stripe of green to the middle.

  2. I tried this a while ago with a pinky purple, then orange then yellow at the tips, with even sized stripes, so cool but took ages! Awesome blog by the way :D

Review: Nicole by OPI A Million Sparkles is Accurately Named

It's amazing what you can find when you wander around at night.  My favourite time to go shopping is ridiculously late and I'm extra happy when it pays off.  I've been looking for Nicole by OPI A Million Sparkles for a while now at that couldn't be more up my alley if it tried.  I finally managed to find it in a Shoppers last night and it really does live up to its name. A Million Sparkles is a predominately blue glitter that has an amazing ability to look like a foil after a couple of coats.  Combine that with gold, silver and pink bar glitter and you have a winner.  It's seriously so sparkly I got distracted from what I was saying at lunch today.  Application is decent but you really need four coats to get completely opaque coverage.  That's ok, glitter dries fast.  It's a little rough too but nothing Seche Vite can't fix.  The Verdict:  Yay glitter! If, like me, you like sparklies to the point where it's the big...

Review: Sephora X Outburst

As you can imagine, I was pretty excited when the new Sephora X polishes came out.  Not only were there a million of them, but I could go see them in person, circling the huge stand and singling out my prey.  I'm not the most happy that the good ones are FIFTEEN dollars each but what am I going to do, not buy any?? That's silly.  I have few now but my favourite so far as to be the incredibly Outburst.  LOOK AT IT:

MOAR FLOWERS, NOW SPARKLY

Ok! So you may be feeling a sense of deja vu but WHO CARES SPARKLIES.  I actually did this flower mani before the neon one - I held the the neon glitter under my blacklight and there was no way I could not immediately apply it to my nails. Running The Sparkly Shop just continues to have perks...  And yes, I do have a blacklight bulb that handy.  Anyway, this glitter is just as amazing as the neon, it's RIDICULOUSLY sparkly.  Same thinness, nice and easy to work with.  Let's take a look, shall we?
