Glitter Herringbone Nails, Take 2

I just want to cry looking at these pictures.  I mean, it looks awesome if you make the pictures super small and squint at it from a distance but the second you get closer you can see how my top coat betrayed me.  I'm so super sad right now guys :(

I'm going to pretend the millions of bubbles aren't there for a moment and just talk about what was supposed to happen.  A while ago I did this mani, rainbow herringbone nails.  I wasn't happy with the execution then and I'm still not so I decided to redo it so that the glitter all sat down properly.  Using the diamond shaped glitter is always a PITA because of how easily it sticks up and catches on stuff.  I've found though that if you use my usual technique but make sure to tamp each piece down into the top coat as you go, you can make it all smooth and nice.  All was going perfectly until I was brutally betrayed by my combination of Essie Everyday Top Coat and Out the Door Top Coat.  I don't even know how it happened!  I've never had this happen this bad before! Seriously, look how many bubbles there are, I'll wait.  :( is all I have else to say.

The Verdict:  I may be making a big deal over a relatively small issue but this was looking so awesome and it wasn't exactly quick to do.  It looked fine on but up close...sigh.

  1. It looks amazing! I feel your pain =( The bubbles would create a rough surface which I would just pick at until it all came off. Add some thinner to it maybe, and tap it on your desk/whatever to get the bubbles to float to the top? Sometimes it works ==

  2. Ok, first, THIS MANI IS AMAZING!!!! my jaw dropped when I saw the first picture. Second, stupid topcoat why did you bubbled! I understand what you mean, you spend time to get it perfect and ... topcoat! But, third, I think in this case is not that bad, because bubbles are spread equally, I'm almost tempted to say: look! the cute sequins are snorkelling! is beautiful! like a rainbow soda!

  3. This is stunning! I don't think the bubbles detract from this at all. This is a gorgeous manicure! Well done :)

  4. You really are so talented! It's a shame about the bubbles. I know how they can just ruin all your hard work and it doesn't matter how great the glitter is, all you see the bubbles.

Speaking as everyone else looking at the manicure, the bubbles are the last thing on my mind! You're amazing.

Review: Nicole by OPI A Million Sparkles is Accurately Named

It's amazing what you can find when you wander around at night.  My favourite time to go shopping is ridiculously late and I'm extra happy when it pays off.  I've been looking for Nicole by OPI A Million Sparkles for a while now at that couldn't be more up my alley if it tried.  I finally managed to find it in a Shoppers last night and it really does live up to its name. A Million Sparkles is a predominately blue glitter that has an amazing ability to look like a foil after a couple of coats.  Combine that with gold, silver and pink bar glitter and you have a winner.  It's seriously so sparkly I got distracted from what I was saying at lunch today.  Application is decent but you really need four coats to get completely opaque coverage.  That's ok, glitter dries fast.  It's a little rough too but nothing Seche Vite can't fix.  The Verdict:  Yay glitter! If, like me, you like sparklies to the point where it's the biggest tag on y

Review: JENsations Stars in Space and S'mores

Guess what everyone?  I'm going to review some indie polishes that you can actually buy without having to wait for email messages!  Yay!  And sparkly too!  Imagine all the holo glory as while my lightbox produces lovely even white light, it saps any and all rainbows from manis, leaving me to try to take pictures in my kitchen like a barbarian.  It may not sound that hard but when you use a manual focus 60mm macro lens that has a wafer-thin depth of field, it's not the easiest.  Anyway, let's take a look at two, that's right, two, beautiful polishes from JENsations , Stars in Space and S'mores. First up, Stars in Space.  I started with two coats of Zoya Caprice, a very bright purple creme that you'll be seeing a lot of as it makes for a great base.  Next, two coats of Stars in Space, the most fabulous mix of silver holo glitter.  There's stars, squares (man, I love square glitter), hexes and micro glitter.  I liked this one as there was enough glitter on
