Polish All the Nails

With New Year's nearly here, I had to come up with something special.  I'll be wearing this amazing dress I found that has a gradient of light blue to dark charcoal running through it, covered in silver lines.  It's so pretty and it just had to have matching nails!  This was my first attempt at a non-glitter gradient and I'm really happy with how it turned out. For the gradient I used OPI "I Want to be A-Lone Star", Sally Hansen "Gun Shot" and Sally Hansen Complete Manicure "Black Platinum".  On top, mimicking the lines is a silver glitter nail art polish I found at Dollarama.  I've experimented with a couple of different applicators for gradients and using an eye-shadow sponge seemed to work well here.  I have to practice as it isn't the smoothest transition but at least the colours are a close match.  As much as I love the colour of the OPI it shows the brush strokes and is difficult to apply.  The Black Platinum was also

So I came across this amazing-looking layered polish yesterday.  Being an optimist, I expected some kind of marbled, neon....thing and what I got was a pale, blah mauve.  Sigh. 

Over the past few weeks I've been experimenting with some different combination of colours, glitters and patterns.  All these were taken with my iPhone so please excuse the quality!   Christmas party nails!  I loved how this one turned out, so Christmas-y.  This was using Rimmel "Stiletto Red" with Love & Beauty green glitter. Found this one in the supermarket, no less.  Really hard to photograph but pretty green flakes.  Joe Fresh "Twilight" . Loved this one, so sparkly.  This was using Sally Hansen Complete Manicure "Glity Pleasure" and Sephora by OPI "Only Gold for Me".  Another great sparkly one that had terrible wear.  This was only after a day, you can see how much it was coming off at the tips.  Using Rimmel "615 Night Before" and Wet n Wild "Party of Five Glitters". Really quick post: what the hell did I stumble across today?  How on earth is there a layered nail polish?  Have any of you used it?  I have to try it soon once I can bear to part with my  incredibly sparkly nails  and I'll post picture as I do. Colour: Claire's Beachy Keen

A couple of days ago I was up late and thought I'd give lightning bolt nails a shot.  Turns out it's not too hard to do but reallllly easy to smudge, hence the wonky index finger.  I found that doing a light main coat, thin top coat, middle colour, top coat, top colour then top coat was a winner.  It gets really thick so you have to keep all your coats as thin as possible.  Despite some comments that these looked like Pokemon nails, I was happy with the first attempt. Colours used: Essie Vermillionaire (love that name), Sally Hansen Black Out and Sally Hansen Celeb City for the very sparkly silver.

 So I may just be starting out but I magically seemed to have gathered A LOT of nail polish, so much so that I had to build a custom rack to house them all.  This is a creation I cobbled together using a gallery frame (wooden frame with wooden backing) from the art store and balsa wood for the frame.  It's really strong and they all look fabulous displayed in a frame.  I plan on working my way through most of these so it's also a preview of things to come! If anyone's interested I can write an instruction set on how to do this.  I'm already making one for a friend of mine and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

As part of my quest to learn more about how to do my nails fabulously, I picked the Bundle Monster plates and tried them out.    This is the first time I attempted a layered look and I'm really happy with the result.  It may not be sparkly but I'm still pleased with the result. The colours used here are Sally Hansen Wet Cement and Konad White and Black.  As I mentioned in my previous post I'm just starting out and would love to hear any feedback over whether more or less photos are good, more descriptions, etc.  Thanks for reading!

For my first post I thought I would start with a polish I found today.  My favourites are always glitters as I swear I have a patch of neurons in my brain that only light up for sparklies.  I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this one, it is literally the most sparkly polish I own.   The following photos are with one coat of OPI I Want to be A-Lone Star and three coats of Claire's Glitter Topcoat.  The holographics are amazing in here too, with a full linear appearance despite the large glitter size.  It may be full of chemicals but I'll take the risk for something that looks this awesome.  Without futher ado, check out the photos below!
