Review: Lacquistry Amazeballs. Accurately named.

Guys, I don't really have words for the polish I received in the mail last week.  I've been getting better at tempering my expectations as it leads to less disappointment so when I saw pictures of Lacquistry Amazeballs I thought, well, it can't be that amazeballs.  Turns out, holy crapballs, I've never seen anything like it and everyone NEEDS this polish.  Just stalk Lacquistry on facebook til she posts more, cos just...look.

Review: Lacquistry You're Invited

Here's one of the many things I find annoying about Halloween.  You have all these beautiful polishes, but they are all always orange, black, purple or just generally spooky-themed.  This is all fine, but what happens November first?  What happens especially when the polishes don't even arrive until the 5th? Yeah, that's what I thought.  My challenge then is to make the lovely Lacquistry You're Invited into something November 8th appropriate.  I always love how much glitter there is in Lacquistry polishes.  So many times I've completely ruined a mani because you need a million layers to get decent glitter coverage.  Not You're Invited though.  Being a mixture of black, silver, holo and orange glitter in hexes, squares, micro and diamonds, you get good coverage without having to fish around for anything large than a micro piece.  Application was really good, this polish works super well in a gradient without even really trying.  To m...

Review: Lacquistry AshBerry Freeze

AHHHHHHH I'M KIND OF EXCITED RIGHT NOW AS I JUST GOT NEW LACQUISTRY POLISHES IN THE MAIL.  You may not think this is that big of a deal but Jenna makes the most amazing polishes and finally has stock again!  She also sent me the most amazing box of glitter but that's totally beside the point.  Look how awesome AshBerry Freeze is. If you've been on this site for more than a moment, you might have noticed I have something of a thing for glitter - especially holo glitter.  I swear there's a patch in my brain that bribes me with dopamine to look at sparkly things.  I'm not a brain...person but that sounds right to me.  That's just a bit why this polish with it's mix of micro, small and medium fuchsia holo glitter mixed with silver appeals to me so much.  Application was a little tricky but if you keep up-ending the bottle, you get a good mix of glitter.  This is two coats over Sally Hansen Celeb City.

Blue Textured Patchwork Nails

There comes a point where stamping is too hard and the prospect of doing another striped, dotted or average taped mani just isn't interesting.  I literally (literally!) have an entire reusable shopping full of polish and yet deciding what to do can be extremely tough.  The solution? Browse all the blogs! I really should use that more, it is the meme after which my blog is named.... Anyway, I found myself on Chloe's Nails and just had to try one of her "Patchwork" manis.  I wanted a twist though: have each be a different texture, rather than colour! To start off, I added two coats of Rimmel Black Satin - my go-to black - and added a thin coat of Seche Vite on the top to help it dry.  Once it looked dry, I WAITED FIVE MORE MINUTES.  I have ruined way too many manis not waiting an extra five minutes.  Then, I cut two squares of tape to create my first two squares.  I added the polish, added Seche Vite and WAITED FIVE MORE MINUTES.  Repeat for th...

Review: Lacquistry Faux Fir

Onwards to show you more indie polishes that I magically have and is now impossible to get, therefore leaving me wracked with guilt because I'm essentially just teasing you!  So I can hear what you're thinking, and no, I didn't just glue sparkly pine needles to my nails, this is just Lacquistry Faux Fir! I'm not normally one for greens, for some reason, but I had to make an exception for Faux Fir.  Anything with such a large amount of glitter could be poo brown and I'd find a way to like it.  There's bar glitter, hex, micro, you name it, it's all there, in a strong forest green. Anyway, for this one I started with two coats of Revlon Posh with a coat of Rimmel Black Satin on my ring finger.  I was curious to see if using a different undercolour would make for a good accent nail and it's not bad.  Next, two coats of Faux Fir.  Application was decent - this much glitter is always a little thick - but I had no problems getting it out of the bottle which ...

Review: Lacquistry Cassandra's Peacock

Ohhhh do I have a doozy for you ladies (and gentlemen, can't make assumptions).  As you may have noticed, I've been working my way through my pile of Lacquistry polishes - first world problem, that's for sure.  I initially tried this one out when I first received it, realised I should have layered it and put it back in the pile.  Consider it now having had justice done, because it's totally awesome! Being such a chunky glitter, adding enough layers to be fully opaque can cause wear issues.  Not a fault of the polish, more of physics.  So instead of adding three-four coats, I started with a coat of my favourite sparkly blue, Orly Sweet Peacock.  Then, two coats of Lacquistry Cassandra's Peacock.  I can't even begin to describe how much glitter is in here.  There's blue, green, silver, all of different sizes and shapes, it's so amazing.  Because there's plenty of fine glitter in there too, it's just so sparkly and glittery.  It's just...

Review: Lacquistry Dirty Rich

It's been more than a day so you know what that means!  Lacquistry review!  Totes not sure what I'm going to do when I run out of indie polishes to review but in the mean time, I still have quite the stack to go through.  By the way, how do you feel about "totes", as a word?  It's seeped insidiously into my vocabulary of late so please let me know if it's annoying and I'll stop.  Anyway,  let's take a look at a truly beautiful polish, Lacquistry Dirty Rich.   Dirty Rich is a blend of black and gold glitter in an ever-so-slightly dark tinted base.  The effect is incredibly, it looks like some fabulous cocktail dress.  The thing I love about glitters like this is that they dry super fast and are opaque quickly.  Application was really good with this, this is only three coats.  I say only, but that's pretty good for a glitter.  With a coat of Seche Vite on the top and some drying drops to help the process along (they actually...

Experimenting with Tribal Art and all Different Nails

Oh yes ladies, it's experiment time! I've been toying with different techniques with tiny brushes lately but am usually hesitant to show you as I'm still working on my skills.  Not levelled up yet, so to speak.  However, I decided to give the whole tribal look a go this weekend and accidentally made quite the interesting look. First up, I added two coats of Joe Fresh White to all my nails.  Then, with a striping brush and starting with my thumb, I painted in stripes and filled in the stripes with different patterns.  Not bad, but I got bored after two fingers so I tried out another of my new Sally Hansen Diamond Strength glitters, this time Multi-Faceted.  Not bad, especially over white.  It comes out a little sparse but dries quickly so it's not an issue to do two coats.  Then, to tie in my ring finger, I added a glitter gradient in Lacquistry Dirty Rich.  All together, quite the eclectic look but sooo many compliments so win!

Review: Lacquistry Jessica Rabbit

I've done so many Lacquistry posts now I'm struggling to come up with an original introduction.  It's pretty clear now that I have a lot of Lacquisty polishes, mostly because I got some before she was constantly sold out and am good at jumping on the notification emails from etsy.  I'm sorry to keep going on about polishes that will be almost impossible to get but LOOK AT THIS, HOW COULD I NOT REVIEW IT?? Lacquistry Jessica Rabbit (no, hands, not reddit, rabbit) is the most amazing sparkly red, like ever.  The base is a nice red tint and just packed with all the types of red glitter.  Coverage and application was really good, as usual, getting to full opacity in three coats.   These types of polishes are a little rough but with a coat or two of Seche Vite it's smooth enough.  This is so awesome I had someone do a double take at the them in the elevator this morning.  Win for me!

Review: Lacquistry Oh Yes I Did

I'm not normally the type to be too upset when I break a nail.  I keep them pretty short as I type all day so it's not usually an issue.  However, when it's super low down on my photo hand, I'm sad.  I MUST CONTINUE ON, HOWEVER.  So please, let's take a moment of silence, think of the loss I've suffered.  Now to super super sparkly nail polish! Lacquistry Oh Yes I Did is amazing.  It's a brown polish (brown!) with copper, blue and holo glitter.  It's so pretty, so sparkly, so unlike everything else I have stashed away, it's awesome.  It even looks good on my tiny middle nail.  Application on this was really good too.  This is three coats but you could get away with two.

Review: Lacquistry Golf Shorts

If you've been reading this blog for a while, you may have noticed that have something of an affinity for indie polishes.  The more glitter you can pack into a polish while it not being solid in the bottle, the better.  That reason alone is why I will always <3 Lacquistry.  I mean, look at the photos below! That's a ridiculous amount of glitter! Anyway, let's take a closer look at Lacquistry Golf Shorts. Golf Shorts is a polish with bright orange (not copper) glitter suspended in a clear base with super huge green and gold accent glitter.  I just love this one, cos I mean, how often do you see this kind thing?  Very rarely.  Application is never the best with polishes like this but I'd rather fight with the glitter than have not enough.  This is three coats and when I was editing the photos I noticed a few bald spots but whatever, it's so sparkly that it's hard to see in person.  The Verdict:  MAKE MORE LIKE THIS PLE...

Lacquistry Haul!

Haul time! I initially only ordered half these then made the mistake of getting drunk and going on the internet, hence the other half.  Too late now! Golf Socks.  LOVE THIS SO MUCH <3 Cassandra's Peacock.  So many different green and blue glitters I could die Jessica Rabbit Faux Fir.  An actual good use of bar glitter! Dirty Rich Fireplace.  This looks so interesting Chocolate Covered Cherries Finally, my favourite, Oh Yes I Did.  So different and sparkly.  I'll be working my way through these in the next few weeks, keep an eye out :) Lacquistry polishes are available at Jenna's Etsy store here .

Lacquistry Tepes Swatches!

I think I'm going to stick to my rule for making posts: when in doubt, review another Lacquistry polish!  I've been making it my mission lately to try as many indie polishes as I can but Lacquistry keeps on being my favourite.  Nerd Lacquers are a very close second but who could resist someone that makes polishes like Tepes?   Tepes is an absolute glitter bomb with all manner of bronze glitters packed in a slightly tinted base.  That would be good on it's own but it also somehow manages to be duochrome as well.  Bronze in some lights, pink/purple in others, it's just so pretty.  Application was really good on this one as well, this is three coats and is fully opaque, no base colour.  I hope Jenna keeps doing the dense glitters like this as they're much easier to work with than the large-hex glitters, as much as I love them.

Review: Lacquistry Happiness is a Warm Gun, So Sparkly

I've done a lot of experimenting tonight, both with an abstract version of my family quest which was a challenge set by my bf and with gold foil .  The gold foil is hardly practical in the longer term so I then did what I do every night (when I can't think of anyting else), Pinky, use a Lacquistry polish!  The lucky contestant tonight is Happiness is a Warm Gun, a most interesting silver glitter. Happiness is a Warm Gun is a charcoal grey glitter - with a difference.  It's hard to pin down in words but if you look at the close ups you'll see that there are all these duochrome particles in there that can make the polish look blue or pink, depending on the light.  Reminds me a lot of the type of glitter in the China Glaze Prismatic collection.  Super pretty, interesting to look at and, of course, very sparkly. Application for this polish was good and normal for indie polishes.  There's a metric crap ton (official measurement) of glitter in here so you ...

Review: Lacquistry Hey Cowboy Swatches

I've been having quite the love affair with Lacquistry polishes lately.  Every single one I get and try is better than the last and is always just perfect.  Some have massive hex glitter that I always like, some are just rainbow glitter and all are so sparkly, so pretty, so unlike just about everything else on the market.  Hey Cowboy is no exception.  It's different to the other Lacquistry polishes I've tried so far but this just might be one of my favourites. Hey Cowboy is a massive glitter bomb consisting of blue and gold micro glitter accented with larger silver pieces in a clear base.  I was really happy with the application with this one, the pictures below are three coats but it was pretty much opaque at two and doesn't need a base colour.  Once on, I couldn't believe how sparkly this was.  I kept twinkling my hands around all day today and getting distracted in meetings, it was too good.  It reminds me of something my Je...

Review: Lacquistry I Wear My Jewellery on My Nails and Devil's Dandruff!

It is a happy day indeed for me today.  Not only did I get EIGHT Lacquistry polishes in the mail today (that's what I get for looking at Etsy when I'm a little drunk) but I booked flights to go back to Australia for two weeks with my wonderful friend Marlo! So excited I had to use the most sparkliest polish in the whole world to celebrate!  Today I'll be looking at Lacquistry I Wear My Jewellery on My Nails and the lovely Marlo will be showcasing Devil's Dandruff.  Please excuse the number of exclamation marks above and inevitably below, it's been quite the exciting evening! First up, let's take a look at the polish that immediately jumped out at me as I unpacked all my lovely polishes tonight, I Wear My Jewellery on My Nails.  This one's going to be a little hard to describe as it's a jumble of the most mirror-like holo hexes I've ever seen, tiny silver and holo glitter and holo bar glitter!  Hot damn did this come out sparkly.  Wh...

Review: Lacquistry Lake Placid on Acid

Man, I don't think I've ever actually reviewed a full collection of polishes I've received in a haul before, this must mean I got quite the good haul! I'm still sad that Across the Universe - a polish I'd been coveting for ages - arrived on the same as my Lacquistry order.  The Deborah Lippmann is in the same vein as this latest polish, featuring green and blue glitters in a blue base but I have to say, it just isn't that impressive compared to something like Lake Placid on Acid. First up with a glitter is finding the right base colour.  For the review today I started with a coat of one of my favourite teals, American Apparel Malibu Green.  I have to say, the AA polishes are some of my absolute favourites as the application is just so good.  One coat of this is perfect under this glitter.  Next up, two coats of the star of the show, Lake Placid on Acid.  LPOA is a polish with a collection of green and blue glitters in large and small sizes in a tinted ...

Review: Now This is How you Use Lacquistry Shredded!

You might have noticed over the past few days that I'm a little obsessed with Lacquistry polishes.  I just can't help it.  I look at all the boring, plain colours and they just haven't been inspiring me as much.  A black, shredded glitter on the other hand, yes please. This initially started out being a review for China Glaze Papaya Punch.  However, the formula was really unpleasant to work with.  These pictures here are three coats and there are still bald spots!  It dragged at the cuticles, seemed too thick, all round not great.  Totally unlike all other China Glazes I've tried.  To make matters worse, when I tried to clean up the edges, it just bled orange all over my fingers.  Not again, if I can help it.  This is when I decided that it needed an aggressive, ballsy glitter gradient and what better than Lacquistry Shredded.  Shredded was really good to work with. Easy to apply as lots came out with the brush on each ...
