Review: Butter London Knackered

As a rule, I'm pretty generous with my reviews of polishes.  I'm more than happy to blame my application, clean up, top coat interaction, etc but sometimes, a polish is just will not apply.  It makes me incredibly sad to say but Butter London Knackered is one of those polishes.

I tried this polish on its own but after three coats it was still too sheer so I decided to layer it over black, always a reasonable choice.  On goes the usual two coats of Rimmel Black Satin and once it was dry, I started with Knackered.  The first coat was ok, you expect it to be a bit sheer and a bit brush-strokey, nothing to worry about.  The second coat usually fixes all the issues but not this time.  The brush strokes got more visible, if anything, and no matter what I did, it still dragged at the cuticles.  Even when I took it off completely and started again, being even more careful it was still terrible.  Sure, the glitter is pretty and the duochrome is nice but the finish gives me the horrors.  The first five pictures below are the second application.  See how it looks as though there's tip wear? I JUST applied this.  The last picture was my first attempt *shudder*.

The Verdict:  I finally decided to plurge and get a Butter London and now I'm sad.  It seemed like a good idea but how on earth can anyone deal with the application??

  1. That's so weird... I'm wearing it right now, layered over black, and I had the complete opposite experience (thank goodness :\ )! I didn't have any dragging, don't see any brushstrokes, and even with Seche Vite, I didn't get shrinkage. I only used one coat of black polish, so maybe that made a difference. Sorry to hear this gave you so many issues!

  2. Mine's not like that at all, actually! Did you try thinning it?

  3. I've had the same problem with a bottle of No More Waity Katie I bought last month. It's my first Butter London and I thought I got a bad bottle, but now I'm thinking that's just how their polish is.

  4. That really sucks! I bought Butter London's Lillibet's Jubilee the other day and I didn't really like it either. It went on too streaky for me, but it looks good as an accent and at least it's pretty opaque. I'm sorry I hope that you fair better with your next purchase!

  5. I have a pretty mixed opinion on BUTTER polishes... I have one, HRH, which is a deep gorgeous purple, and is sooooo nice to apply and lasts a nice long time. The other, Chancer, is gorgeous, but chips insanely easily, and has zero staying power. Luckily I bought mine with points, and only payed tax and shipping, so I'm not too bothered, but it's odd to me that such an expensive, well-known brand can be so inconsistent!

  6. Aaugh, I hate it when polishes do this! I've heard so many good things about Butter London, but that's just craziness. Hopefully it'll behave better for you next time...maybe give it another shot after the weather changes and see if that has an effect? You never know... >_<

Review: Nicole by OPI A Million Sparkles is Accurately Named

It's amazing what you can find when you wander around at night.  My favourite time to go shopping is ridiculously late and I'm extra happy when it pays off.  I've been looking for Nicole by OPI A Million Sparkles for a while now at that couldn't be more up my alley if it tried.  I finally managed to find it in a Shoppers last night and it really does live up to its name. A Million Sparkles is a predominately blue glitter that has an amazing ability to look like a foil after a couple of coats.  Combine that with gold, silver and pink bar glitter and you have a winner.  It's seriously so sparkly I got distracted from what I was saying at lunch today.  Application is decent but you really need four coats to get completely opaque coverage.  That's ok, glitter dries fast.  It's a little rough too but nothing Seche Vite can't fix.  The Verdict:  Yay glitter! If, like me, you like sparklies to the point where it's the biggest tag on y

Review: JENsations Stars in Space and S'mores

Guess what everyone?  I'm going to review some indie polishes that you can actually buy without having to wait for email messages!  Yay!  And sparkly too!  Imagine all the holo glory as while my lightbox produces lovely even white light, it saps any and all rainbows from manis, leaving me to try to take pictures in my kitchen like a barbarian.  It may not sound that hard but when you use a manual focus 60mm macro lens that has a wafer-thin depth of field, it's not the easiest.  Anyway, let's take a look at two, that's right, two, beautiful polishes from JENsations , Stars in Space and S'mores. First up, Stars in Space.  I started with two coats of Zoya Caprice, a very bright purple creme that you'll be seeing a lot of as it makes for a great base.  Next, two coats of Stars in Space, the most fabulous mix of silver holo glitter.  There's stars, squares (man, I love square glitter), hexes and micro glitter.  I liked this one as there was enough glitter on
