An Abstract Field of Tulips

I tell you, it's getting harder and harder to come up with different nails to do.  I have a pile of polish to swatch but I get bored just doing a colour and talking about it.  Pondering what to do last night, my eyes alighted on acrylic paints...yessss.  As I'm not especially good painting but do have a large amount of patience for repetitive tasks like dots, dots it is!

Inspired by a mental image something like this, I thought, why not rainbows?  I like starting with a black base so I first applied two coats of my favourite shiny black, Rimmel Black Satin.  Taking my tiniest dotting tool, I initially started with a red polish.  Red doesn't show up on black too well so I switched to acrylic paints.  I did a block of dots at a time in each of the rainbow colours.  The result, a colourful abstract field of tulips!

The Verdict:  I love how this came out.  I've been having a rough time at work so shiny rainbow nails makes me happy.  It was pretty quick to do too.  Yay paints!

  1. This came out so awesome! I really love that you dotted the stripes instead of just drawing it all on. :)

  2. :D I'm playing spot the hidden Mickey with this - it's awesome! I should really get back to painting my nails in solid colours again. Glitter has taken over my life.

Review: Nicole by OPI A Million Sparkles is Accurately Named

It's amazing what you can find when you wander around at night.  My favourite time to go shopping is ridiculously late and I'm extra happy when it pays off.  I've been looking for Nicole by OPI A Million Sparkles for a while now at that couldn't be more up my alley if it tried.  I finally managed to find it in a Shoppers last night and it really does live up to its name. A Million Sparkles is a predominately blue glitter that has an amazing ability to look like a foil after a couple of coats.  Combine that with gold, silver and pink bar glitter and you have a winner.  It's seriously so sparkly I got distracted from what I was saying at lunch today.  Application is decent but you really need four coats to get completely opaque coverage.  That's ok, glitter dries fast.  It's a little rough too but nothing Seche Vite can't fix.  The Verdict:  Yay glitter! If, like me, you like sparklies to the point where it's the biggest tag on y

Review: Sephora X Outburst

As you can imagine, I was pretty excited when the new Sephora X polishes came out.  Not only were there a million of them, but I could go see them in person, circling the huge stand and singling out my prey.  I'm not the most happy that the good ones are FIFTEEN dollars each but what am I going to do, not buy any?? That's silly.  I have few now but my favourite so far as to be the incredibly Outburst.  LOOK AT IT:

All the ILNP Ultrachromes! Like Shiny Beetles!

Guess what guys, it's not glitter today!  Instead, I have the incredibly amazing ILNP Ultrachrome polishes to show you!  I saw a picture of these on the ILNP site and gasped out loud when I saw the colour shift.  I totally didn't sit for an hour at work, refreshing the page when the preorders went up.  That would be silly.  I was so excited when they arrived as they looked as amazing in the bottle as they did on the site.  I swatched each polish over black, took the photos, but no matter what I tried, I couldn't get the finish to a place where I was satisfied.  I'm sure it's something about the way I was applying it, but there would be little bumps or inconsistencies in the finish and it was annoying.  So I didn't post them.  I gave them another shot in a taped mani and YES THIS IS BETTER LOOK:
