Weekly Challange: Inspired by a Book - The Dark Tower Series

I find challenges based around an "inspiration" tricky.  I have a lot of movies, books, TV shows, music that I enjoy but rarely find inspiring.  The Reddit weekly challenge for the past week has been specifically for books and it finally hit me - I had to do nails for Stephen King's The Dark Tower series.  I've read that series over and over again and have always loved it.  There's a ton of really interesting art work featured in some editions of the books as well as online so using this picture as inspiration, let me present my Dark Tower nails.

I'm not super good at nail art yet but I like to give it a shot from time to time.  To start, I applied two coats of China Glaze Electric Beat for my sky background.  Then, using a combination of acrylic paints and nail art polishes, I drew in the field of roses, the tower, the setting sun and the spiralling clouds.  For my thumb I had a go at painting a larger rose with the same combination of paints and polishes.  Once it was done, I finished off with a coat of Seche Vite.  It may not be my best work, but I'm happy.

The Verdict:  I'm happy with how this came out, especially with the clouds in acrylic paint.  It was much easier to apply and have it be opaque than polish.  This all reminds me, I really should read that series again....

Review: Nicole by OPI A Million Sparkles is Accurately Named

It's amazing what you can find when you wander around at night.  My favourite time to go shopping is ridiculously late and I'm extra happy when it pays off.  I've been looking for Nicole by OPI A Million Sparkles for a while now at that couldn't be more up my alley if it tried.  I finally managed to find it in a Shoppers last night and it really does live up to its name. A Million Sparkles is a predominately blue glitter that has an amazing ability to look like a foil after a couple of coats.  Combine that with gold, silver and pink bar glitter and you have a winner.  It's seriously so sparkly I got distracted from what I was saying at lunch today.  Application is decent but you really need four coats to get completely opaque coverage.  That's ok, glitter dries fast.  It's a little rough too but nothing Seche Vite can't fix.  The Verdict:  Yay glitter! If, like me, you like sparklies to the point where it's the big...

Review: Sephora X Outburst

As you can imagine, I was pretty excited when the new Sephora X polishes came out.  Not only were there a million of them, but I could go see them in person, circling the huge stand and singling out my prey.  I'm not the most happy that the good ones are FIFTEEN dollars each but what am I going to do, not buy any?? That's silly.  I have few now but my favourite so far as to be the incredibly Outburst.  LOOK AT IT:

MOAR FLOWERS, NOW SPARKLY

Ok! So you may be feeling a sense of deja vu but WHO CARES SPARKLIES.  I actually did this flower mani before the neon one - I held the the neon glitter under my blacklight and there was no way I could not immediately apply it to my nails. Running The Sparkly Shop just continues to have perks...  And yes, I do have a blacklight bulb that handy.  Anyway, this glitter is just as amazing as the neon, it's RIDICULOUSLY sparkly.  Same thinness, nice and easy to work with.  Let's take a look, shall we?
