Experiments with My New Pinking Shears

If you've read even a couple of my posts you might have noticed that I have trouble leaving a plain colour be. Stamps, taping, dots, you name it and I wanna try it. Given I had some time on my hands over the weekend I decided to hit the arts/craft shop to see what I could find that I could conceivably stick on my nails. Did I ever hit the jackpot with a pinking shear set with FIVE interchangeable blades. I was a bit miffed at first when I realised they were safety scissors but with enough speed and tension they cut through tape nicely. The problem was what then to do with them! SQUAAARES!

First up, I want to talk a little about my base colour, OPI Russian Navy. I don't want to just gloss over this as it's a really pretty purple/navy with tiny, tiny orange and blue shimmer particles. I did have a few issues with the application as the blue tends to bleed everywhere when you try to clean it up but whatcha gunna do. Take a look at the fourth picture down, see if you don't think it's worth it for that hidden colour shimmer. This is two coats.

Having added the base colour, I kiiinda decided to wing it. Here's a breakdown of the steps I used:

Taking my new favourite white, Rimmel French White Tip Pro, I free-handed white stripes down the centre of my nails. I'm really happen with this white, the tiny brush made it easy to free-hand and it was opaque with a few goings-over of the one coat.
One coat of Seche Vite
Next, I took the zigzag pinking shears and cut two pieces of tape. Sticking them to my hand first to cut down on the stickiness, I laid them out so that there were square-shaped gaps in the middle of the white stripe
Taking my favourite silver, Sally Hansen Celeb City, I added a layer of silver down the middle and removed the tape.
One more coat of Seche Vite and I was done!

This is the picture I was talking about. I didn't even know there were orange particles in there until I applied this. Don't you love that?

The Verdict: Russian Navy is a nice purple-navy. The shimmer adds points, the clean up takes them away. There are others out there that do much the same that are cheaper like Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Navy Baby, a constant favourite of mine. The pinking shears, however, and their five different blades, I loooove. Brace yourselves, you've going to be seeing more of this. I love how this came out :)

Review: Nicole by OPI A Million Sparkles is Accurately Named

It's amazing what you can find when you wander around at night. My favourite time to go shopping is ridiculously late and I'm extra happy when it pays off. I've been looking for Nicole by OPI A Million Sparkles for a while now at that couldn't be more up my alley if it tried. I finally managed to find it in a Shoppers last night and it really does live up to its name. A Million Sparkles is a predominately blue glitter that has an amazing ability to look like a foil after a couple of coats. Combine that with gold, silver and pink bar glitter and you have a winner. It's seriously so sparkly I got distracted from what I was saying at lunch today. Application is decent but you really need four coats to get completely opaque coverage. That's ok, glitter dries fast. It's a little rough too but nothing Seche Vite can't fix. The Verdict: Yay glitter! If, like me, you like sparklies to the point where it's the biggest tag on y

Review: JENsations Stars in Space and S'mores

Guess what everyone? I'm going to review some indie polishes that you can actually buy without having to wait for email messages! Yay! And sparkly too! Imagine all the holo glory as while my lightbox produces lovely even white light, it saps any and all rainbows from manis, leaving me to try to take pictures in my kitchen like a barbarian. It may not sound that hard but when you use a manual focus 60mm macro lens that has a wafer-thin depth of field, it's not the easiest. Anyway, let's take a look at two, that's right, two, beautiful polishes from JENsations , Stars in Space and S'mores. First up, Stars in Space. I started with two coats of Zoya Caprice, a very bright purple creme that you'll be seeing a lot of as it makes for a great base. Next, two coats of Stars in Space, the most fabulous mix of silver holo glitter. There's stars, squares (man, I love square glitter), hexes and micro glitter. I liked this one as there was enough glitter on
